The Eden Project in Morecambe is ‘still a viable scheme’ and work is progressing on design details, Lancaster city councillors have been told in a new report.
The update comes as Lancaster City Council’s budget and performance panel is due to assesses a range of big local projects including Eden at a meeting on June 4.
A report on ‘corporate programmes and projects updates’ states work on Eden Morecambe has been progressing to the new design to cost programme, and that ‘’modelling shows the project is still viable.”
According to the report’s scoring system, which gauges a range of factors, the cost of the project, which was initially quoted at being around £100 million, is deemed to be ‘green’ and on track, and within the project tolerance.
Meanwhile the scope of the scheme is deemed ‘amber’, meaning that ‘one or more benefits may not be realised.’

An event where residents will hear about progress on the Eden Project Morecambe will be held at the town's football club next month.
The next 'Community Conversation' on Eden will take place on Monday June 9 from 6pm to 7.30pm at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium.
Attendees will hear from project partners, can ask questions and share thoughts on the plans.
The new project director of Eden Project Morecambe, John Pye, is expected to appear at the June 9 event.
Mr Pye was appointed to the role in March, and at the time Eden bosses said he would be starting in the position just before the Community Conversation and would be introduced to members of the public at the event.
Also in March, it was announced that top firms WSP and Grimshaw will form the external design team for the Eden Project Morecambe.
The Eden Project Morecambe will be built on the former site of the Bubbles and Dome leisure complex with the Winter Gardens theatre and Midland Hotel its near neighbours.
The new attraction will aim to connect people to the natural world, celebrating the unique environment of Morecambe Bay.
The project is being delivered in partnership with Lancaster City Council, Lancashire County Council and Lancaster University.
Eden Project Morecambe will cost £100m, £50m of which was secured from the previous UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund.
The remaining £50m will be sourced from private and philanthropic funds, which Eden bosses say is in ‘advanced stages’ of being finalised.
