Earth tremor hits Silverdale

An earthquake hit the Silverdale area on Wednesday morning.

The tremor struck at 8.11am on May 13, registering 2.3 magnitude and with a depth of three kilometres.

The tremor was reported to have been felt around Silverdale, Carnforth, Milnthorpe and into Grange-over-Sands.

Reports to the British Geological Survey say that the earthquake was like ‘’a loud thump", "was like a heavy lorry outside", "felt like a small explosion underground", "large quick shake" and "heard a loud bang".

In December a 3.3-magnitude quake hit Lancaster and Morecambe, with a second earthquake striking the area two weeks later.
