Ashton Memorial to be lit in support of UN Anti-Racism Day

Lancaster’s Ashton Memorial will be illuminated by a rainbow of colours this Saturday (March 20) in support of UN Anti-Racism Day.

The building will be lit up in yellow, blue and pink, which are the colours of Stand up to Racism, to support the annual event.

Councillor Colin Hartley, Lancaster City Council’s cabinet member for Arts, Culture, Leisure and Wellbeing, said: “Racism and prejudice of any form is abhorrent and it is vital that we work together to oppose it at every turn.

“We are very proud to be able to light the memorial to highlight the importance of this cause to our communities and in solidarity with all those who have lost their lives due to racism.”

On either side of this day, the Ashton Memorial is also being lit up in purple to promote the census, which takes place on March 21.
