Appeal after motorists park on Promenade blocking path for Morecambe lifeboat

Motorists have been asked not to park on the Promenade blocking the path for the Morecambe lifeboat as it could potentially cost lives.

This appeal came after dozens of vehicles have been seen parked up on the Promenade by the slipway near the original Morecambe RNLI station over the past few days.

A member of the public who spoke to Beyond Radio raised concerns that these vehicles could be blocking the route should the lifeboat need to launch.

We contacted Morecambe RNLI, who said:

"As an emergency service, RNLI volunteers are often called upon at a moment’s notice. It is imperative that the lifeboat is able to launch quickly to offer assistance to those requiring help. Any delay to launch could potentially have serious repercussions. We would politely ask that access to the slipway is always available."

A spokesperson for Lancaster City Council said:

"We are aware of the issue with people parking in this area, blocking emergency beach access by the RNLI.

"We are currently discussing the matter with the RNLI and hoping to meet representatives on site soon to explore ways in which vehicular access to this area can be prevented."
